Leeds United may now have a clear path to land Norwich City’s Stuart Webber – but they may still face a wait.
Stuart Webber has decided to leave Norwich City amid links with a move to boyhood club Leeds United.
Norwich City have today confirmed that Webber is leaving the club – and actually communicated his decision at the turn of the year.
Webber will now serve a notice period with Norwich and aid in the handover to his eventual successor.
That notice period will last until March 2024 according to The Athletic, meaning any interested club may face a wait or some tricky negotiations.
It is claimed that Webber could leave sooner than planned, but Norwich would almost certainly expect a fee.
Webber has been at Norwich for more than six years now having arrived from Huddersfield Town back in 2017.
Webber has overseen two promotions to the Premier League and is now ready to move onto his next step.
The Welshman is still only 39 and has built up a great reputation with Norwich, meaning he is bound to attract major interest.
Leeds United keen on Stuart Webber
One potential destination could pull on the heartstring – Leeds United.
The Athletic reported in May that Webber was emerging as an option to replace Victor Orta.
The Spaniard has left Leeds United and a new director of football is needed at Elland Road.
Webber is described in that report as being a ‘lifelong Leeds fan’ and a move would surely appeal.
Leeds will be looking to formulate a new plan to get out of the Championship – something Webber has done on more than one occasion.
The problem would be that notice period, which may leave Leeds waiting until the latter stages of next season.
That may not suit the 49ers Enterprises, who have completed their takeover of the Whites.
Webber’s resignation makes things interesting though and Leeds will surely test the water with a move for him – even if it costs a chunk of cash to get him out of Norwich earlier than expected.
