Leeds United are having to fend off bids from Burnley for Chris Wood.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United are offering Chris Wood a new contract – and if the New Zealander signs it will be their biggest moment of the summer.

Leeds have brought in a whole host of new players during the transfer window to date, but getting Wood to pen a new deal would completely change the outlook of the club.

For too long, Leeds have been unable to resist when Premier League clubs have come calling for their players.

Charlie Taylor, Lewis Cook and Sam Byram have all move on recently, leaving Leeds without some of their most talented players to break through their youth academy in many years.

And Wood’s departure would be just as painful, after he netted 30 goals for them last season.

However, if Leeds can keep hold of Wood, it would send out a message about their ambition for the years ahead – with Andrea Radrizzani at the helm.

The Whites have held firm so far, and the fact they are prepared to offer Wood a new contract can only be seen as a positive.

But the Daily Star suggest that the 25-year-old is set to turn down Leeds’ new and improved terms, as he has his heart set on a switch to Turf Moor.

Thomas Christiansen now needs to change his striker’s mind, as it would be a momentous occasion for Leeds in their recent history.

If the Whites are to progress, they surely are going to need to prove that they can keep hold of their best players – even when Premier League clubs come knocking.

And if Leeds can get Wood to commit his future, it would be a far more important signing than any of the new players which they have brought to Elland Road this summer.
