The Swansea City loanee will look to face Liverpool in the EFL Cup next month.
Norwich City’s Josh Murphy and Leeds Utd’s Matt Grimes in action
Leeds United will take on Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup after they knocked out Norwich City on penalties in the last 16 this week. The win at Elland Road saw them into the final eight and Liverpool were draw at home against Leeds after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in their tie.
It is sure to be a massive fixture for Leeds when the game is played on the 29th November.
But one player who will hope to feature for Leeds could have very well have been a Liverpool player.
Leeds United’s Matt Grimes looks dejected
Matt Grimes is currently on loan at Leeds from Swansea City. He joined the Welsh club in 2015 after impressing at Exeter City and as part of the England youth set-up.
Swansea were however not the only team hunting his signature.
It was reported by the Daily Mail in January 2015 that Grimes had also attracted the interest of Liverpool during his time at Exeter.
QPR’s Massimo Luongo in action with Leeds United’s Matt Grimes
It would have made sense – given his impressive displays at St James’ Park and style of play – for then Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers to have been interested in his services.
He ended up at Swansea and is currently enjoying a spell at Leeds. He is also likely to feature against Liverpool – as he has been a regular in the EFL Cup for Garry Monk, even if he has struggled for first-team football in the Championship.
Grimes will undoubtedly hope that he does get the chance to show to Liverpool what they are missing with Leeds.
