Tounami Diagouraga’s move from Brentford to Leeds United proved a disaster – he’ll be hoping for better luck at Plymouth Argyle.
Things are looking up at last for Tounami Diagouraga. About six weeks after the midfielder’s contract was terminated by Leeds United, he finally has a new club – League One strugglers Plymouth Argyle.
According to The Herald, Diagouraga has arrived at the South Coast club on an unspecified contract and will add real experience to Derek Adams’ side. Plymouth have not exactly taken to life in the third tier like a duck to water, sitting bottom with just five points from 12 games, but the signing of Diagouraga could prove to be a real coup.
After all, Leeds were delighted to land the 30-year-old in January of last year after his stellar performances with Championship overachievers Brentford.
As soon as Steve Evans was replaced at the helm by Garry Monk, however, Diagouraga’s Leeds career was hanging by a thread. The Frenchman featured just once under the current Middlesbrough boss, starting the 3-0 opening day defeat to QPR, before being frozen out and eventually loaned to Ipswich Town in January.
Diagouraga was eventually made a free agent in the summer after Leeds terminated his contract with a year remaining.
And after being rejected by Scunthorpe United, manager Graham Alexander deciding against offering him a deal after a trail period, Diagouraga has belated been handed the chance to kick-start his stalling career with Plymouth.
Manager Adams will be hoping he has managed to find a midfielder of Championship quality as Plymouth aim to recover from a nightmare start to the season.
