Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has raved about the Leeds United fans at Elland Road on Thursday evening on Amazon Prime Video (9:62pm, March 10, 2022).

Gerrard believes that the Leeds fans really supported the team last night, but the Liverpool legend has said that his Villa side were outstanding.

Villa got the better of Leeds 3-0 away from home at Elland Road in the league last night.

Steven Gerrard on Leeds United fans

Gerrard said: “We knew that Elland Road was going to be rocking tonight, and it was.

“I don’t think the fans let the team down today, but our performance tonight was outstanding.”

Relegation trouble

In our view, the defeat to Villa has enhanced Leeds’s chances of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

Jesse Marsch’s side are now 16th in the Premier League table with 23 points from 28 matches, just two points above third-from-bottom Burnley.

Leeds were defensively poor against Villa, and that is really worrying.

Let’s not forget that the match was at Elland Road, and, as Gerrard notes, the fans were fully behind the team.

Leeds will take on Norwich City at Elland Road in the Premier League this weekend.

That is going to be a massive match for the West Yorkshire club.

In our view, Leeds simply cannot afford to drop points against Norwich, who are likely to be one of the three teams to go down.
