Leeds United youngster Ryan Edmondson bagged a hat-trick in a pre-season game earlier this month.

It was the ideal way for him to warm up for the new season, in which he is hoping to make the leap from under-23 striker to the first team.

Now Edmondson may be needed even more, with striker Kemar Roofe injured and set to miss the start of the season.

Leeds confirmed via the official website that Roofe will be out for a month as a result of an injury suffered on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia.

Edmondson sent an ideally timed message on Twitter last night, indicating he is ready for this coming season.

Edmondson made his debut for Leeds when he was just 16, but has not yet started a competitive game.

At present it’s a tough ask to expect him to replace Roofe and be an alternative to Patrick Bamford, but that’s the position he is in.

If he can continue to shine in pre-season games then he will have a terrific chance of being involved when the Championship begins.
