Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford made his long-waited comeback for the club on Friday evening.

Bamford – who joined Leeds from Championship rivals Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £7 million – featured for the Whites’ Under-23 side in the Premier League Cup game against their Newcastle Under-23 counterparts at Whitley Park.

The former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest forward did not start the match, but the 25-year-old played for the second 45 minutes.

The forward suffered posterior cruciate ligament injury back in September, and the match against the Newcastle Under-23 on Friday evening was his first since then.

Bamford looked sharp during his time on the pitch, but the forward failed to prevent Carlos Corberan’s side from going down 2-0 at Whitley Park.

The forward has commented on his return to action on Twitter, with some Leeds fans responding to his message.

Meanwhile, the Leeds senior side got the better of Sheffield United 1-0 away from home in the Yorkshire derby on Saturday afternoon.
