Leeds United take an advantage into the second-leg of their play-off semi-final after winning 1-0 thanks to Kemar Roofe’s goal.
When Leeds fans looked at the teamsheet ahead of the first-leg of their play-off semi-final with Derby, they would have been forgiven for being concerned about how vulnerable they may prove to be down the left flank.
Jack Harrison and Stuart Dallas have come in for a lot of criticism at various stages of the season, and Jayden Bogle and Harry Wilson both have the potential to do serious damage.
But not only did the Leeds pair keep the Rams duo largely quiet, it was also a brilliant move that began on that side of the pitch that led to Kemar Roofe’s strike that gives Marcelo Bielsa’s side a narrow lead heading into Wednesday’s second-leg.
And following the game, several Leeds supporters have taken to Twitter to laud Dallas’ performance, with many admitting that they have been made to eat their words regarding the Northern Irishman’s ability to play at left-back.
Dallas is in the side after Barry Douglas and Gjanni Alioski suffered season-ending injuries. But there is no question that he produced the kind of display that silenced a lot of his critics. He may not be the long-term answer in that position, but it is clear to see why Bielsa views the £1.3 million signing (via Sky Sports) as his ultimate utility man.
As mentioned, Derby struggled to ask any questions down Leeds’ left flank. And it was a superb piece of play between Dallas and Harrison that led to the latter playing the outstanding pass that set Roofe up for the only goal.
