Former Middlesbrough and Man City striker Alvaro Negredo will leave La Liga giants Valencia – but could he really wind up at Leeds United?

The majority of Leeds United supporters are taking reports linking The Whites with a stunning move for Alvaro Negredo with a shovel-full of salt.

According to Super Deporte, the former Spanish international has no future at La Liga outfit Valencia with new coach Marcelino Garcia Toral hoping to offload the striker as soon as possible.

And the report claims that there is possibility that Negredo could rock up at Elland Road before the end of the transfer market. After all, the club’s new technical director, Victor Orta, was responsible for bringing the former Sevilla striker to Middlesbrough on loan last season.

However, it appears highly unlikely that Negredo, who won Euro 2012 with Spain, will be partnering Chris Wood up top in West Yorkshire.

Wolves, managed by former Valencia boss Nuno Espirito Santo and with close links to Negredo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, have ruled out a move due to the 31-year-old’s excessive wage demands, as reported by the BBC. Therefore, you wonder whether Leeds would have the capacity to lure a player who was reportedly earning £100,000-a-week at Middlesbrough last season.

Yet, if Leeds did pull off one of the most eye-catching deals in Championship history, the fans would have a right to be excited. Negredo was hardly consistent in spells at Manchester City and Middlesbrough but his signing would be a real statement of intent.
