Brentford face a battle to reach the Premier League after losing the first leg of their playoff semi-final clash with Swansea City.

The Bees suffered heartbreak towards the end of the season as they lost to Stoke City and Barnsley, meaning they missed out on automatic promotion.

Picking themselves back up for the playoffs was never going to be easy, but Brentford can count themselves unlucky to have lost their first leg clash 1-0.

Rico Henry picked up a straight red card in a frankly terrible decision, and Swansea benefited as Andre Ayew fired home the winner.

A 1-0 defeat isn’t insurmountable, but there will be fears that it is all just going wrong for Brentford at the most inopportune time.

Missing out on a place in the Premier League would likely lead to losing key players at Griffin Park, and Said Benrahma will be a wanted man.

The Algerian winger has smashed 17 goals and eight assists this season, and looked a threat against Swansea, producing one particularly impressive run before firing just over the bar.

The Daily Mail reported last week that Leeds United fancy signing Benrahma, and some Whites fans took to Twitter to react to his performance on Sunday.

Fans felt that Benrahma looked ‘quality’, and think that Brentford’s defeat pushes him one step closer to Elland Road as they believe Leeds will pounce if the Bees miss out on promotion.
