Bailey Peacock-Farrell is establishing himself at Leeds United.
Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he thinks he has proven he can be the club’s first choice goalkeeper next season.
The Whites have undergone major changes in the goalkeeping department over the last 12 months, as last season’s first-choice stopper Robert Green was moved on to Huddersfield Town, whilst Marco Silvestri and Ross Turnbull were also allowed to leave.
In came Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan, but the former has been an error-prone disaster, whilst the latter has’t been able to show that he’s anything more than experienced cover between the sticks.
New manager Paul Heckingbottom saw one too many errors from Wiedwald, so decided to give a chance to youth team graduate Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who has previously been out on loan at York City.
In what has been a torrid end to the season, Peacock-Farrell has been one of the few shining lights, turning in some promising displays, none more impressive than the display in Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.
Peacock-Farrell has staked his claim for first-team football next season, telling the Yorkshire Evening Post that he thinks he can be Leeds’ first-choice for the foreseeable future.
However, Leeds fans have taken to Twitter and offered something of a mixed reaction to Peacock-Farrell’s comments, with some feeling that the performance against Villa was the only indication so far that Peacock-Farrell can be a Championship goalkeeper, and that Leeds can’t win promotion with the 21-year-old in goal.
Others think that Peacock-Farrell is more than worthy of playing regularly next term, though may benefit from learning from a top veteran goalkeeper – such as ex-Whites stopper Green.
