Fans react to Paul Heckingbottom’s comments over Leeds United’s form.
Leeds United slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Sheffield United at Elland Road on Saturday.
In doing so, Leeds have still only won one of the eight games that Paul Heckingbottom has taken charge of since replacing Thomas Christiansen last month, losing four.
Speaking afterwards, the 40-year-old said: “I sound like a broken record. The last couple of games I should be highlighting to the players why we’ve won. Instead I’m going mad at the reasons why we haven’t.”
And Leeds fans haven’t reacted well to what the former Barnsley boss’s comments.
Having only joined the club last month, it seems unlikely that Heckingbottom will part company with Leeds before the end of the season.
But the heat is slowly but surely being turned up and unless Leeds have a rip-roaring last couple of months then expectations won’t be too high next season.
United have won only one of their 14 Championship games in 2018. It’s very much relegation form and you wonder if the Whites’ first half of the season is the only thing which has helped them avoid a relegation scrap.
Heckingbottom’s side are 17 points clear of the bottom three, so dropping down into League One doesn’t seem realistic, but a 12-point deficit from the top six means that getting a playoff spot is similarly unrealistic and a season that once promised so much for Leeds – who led the way in the Championship early on – is effectively already over.
