Leeds United were linked with the Sheffield Wednesday youngster in the summer.
Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri confirmed on Tuesday that he rebuffed a “nearby Championship club” over a summer move from Leeds United-linked George Hirst.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported in the summer that Leeds had asked about the 18-year-old, who now looks set to leave Hillsborough after Chansiri admitted to Owlstalk.co.uk that “there is little more we can do to keep George at Sheffield Wednesday” following an impasse over contract negotiations.
Hirst has only made one Championship appearance for the Owls but the young striker is a target of Premier League clubs nonetheless, according to The YEP, and although some fans of the Elland Road club would love him, they are pessimistic over their chances.
The YEP added that Leeds were unwilling to meet Hirst’s valuation, though it remains to be seen whether that would still be the case as January approaches.
The Whites’ Director of Football Victor Orta signed a slew of Under-23 talent during the summer but virtually none of those are anywhere near to Thomas Christiansen’s first team it has to be said.
Even some of the young players that were signed specifically for the senior side – like Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki – can’t get a look-in at the moment, so it seems unlikely that Hirst would be fare much better for now.
He was England’s top goalscorer at the Toulon Tournament in the summer, where the Three Lions won the competition.
