Leeds United have been linked with Daniel Ayala for some time now, but it seems that a deal won’t be materialising after all.

One such rumour came from the Daily Star in April, as they claimed that Leeds were planning to sign Ayala no matter what division they are in next summer.

The Spaniard’s contract at Middlesbrough expires this summer, and having resisted offers to stay, he will become a free agent on July 1st.

Some had expected a move to Elland Road. He knows Leeds director of football Victor Orta from their time together at Middlesbrough, and a reunion seemed sensible.

Leeds will be losing loanee Ben White this summer, and Ayala could have stepped in as a low-cost signing to partner Liam Cooper.

However, The Mirror report that Orta has decided against signing Ayala. The defender’s agent allegedly offered him to Leeds, but they’re not going to make a move.

Leeds fans have been reacting on Twitter to the new rumours, with most happy to learn that Ayala won’t be heading to Elland Road after all.

Some even suggested that Ayala wouldn’t be welcome at Leeds, and that Marcelo Bielsa wouldn’t want him anyway having refused to play for Middlesbrough beyond his current contract.
