Leeds United won 2-0 against Oxford United this weekend.

Leeds United fans got their first sight of some of their new signings running out at Elland Road this weekend as Thomas Christiansen’s side took on Oxford United in their last pre-season friendly of the summer.

The Whites came out 2-0 winners courtesy of goals from Kemar Roofe and Stuart Dallas, and the goal will have been particularly sweet for the former, who found the net against his former club and will be desperate to prove his worth after a glut of attack-minded signings.

While it was two of the players Christiansen inherited that sealed the win, Leeds fans will have been paying particular attention to the new arrivals, with Vurnon Anita, Samu Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski, Caleb Ekuban and Matthew Pennington all featuring at some point.

The latter started alongside Liam Cooper, with Leeds preparing for the imminent suspension of Pontus Jansson.

The Swedish international is unavailable for the club’s first two Championship matches of the campaign and Christiansen used Saturday’s match to test Cooper alongside his new loan signing from Everton.

Pennington has an early chance to prove his worth in Jansson’s absence, and he looked solid enough against Oxford, although he cannot be fairly judged until he comes up against Championship opposition.
