Leeds United crashed to another big defeat this weekend.

Leeds United headed into their Championship clash against Burton Albion this weekend knowing that nothing less than a victory would do, so it was a defining blow to their promotion hopes when they crashed to a 2-1 defeat courtesy of goals from Marvin Sordell and Michael Kightly.

A late strike from Leeds defender Kyle Bartley was not enough to turn the game back in their favour and the hosts held out for a crucial win of their own.

Leeds manager Garry Monk knew the importance of picking the right players for this clash, so it was somewhat surprising to see him persist with young midfielder Kalvin Phillips while experienced alternative Eunan O’Kane remained on the bench.

O’Kane is not every Leeds fan’s cup of tea but he has been one of the Whites’ unsung heroes this season and he is a far more effective option than Phillips.

So it proved on Saturday, as the younger of the two struggled to make a mark on the match.
