Leeds United fell to defeat upon their return to action as they lost 2-0 away at Cardiff City this afternoon.
The Whites saw both West Bromwich Albion and Fulham slip up on Saturday, so would have been hoping to take advantage with a win in South Wales.
However, a misplaced Kalvin Phillips pass allowed Junior Hoilett to smash Cardiff in front. Leeds’ frustration was only added to when Patrick Bamford blocked a goal-bound strike from Jack Harrison.
Leeds couldn’t haul themselves back into the game, and Robert Glatzel came off the bench to bury a second and give Cardiff a 2-0 victory.
Leeds are now level on points with West Brom at the top of the table, but missed a real chance to go top and extend their lead over Fulham in third.
Marcelo Bielsa will be understandably disappointed with the display, as Leeds appeared to look toothless in attack – though some will be encouraged by Ian Carlo Poveda’s display.

The 20-year-old joined Leeds from Manchester City in January, but today was his debut having been given a lengthy bedding-in period at the club – and then, of course, the global pandemic.
The winger only came on for 13 minutes today, but he did enough to draw praise from fans who felt he contributed more than Harrison and Helder Costa did in the rest of the game.
Some called Poveda ‘quality’ and ‘promising’, praising him as the one bright spark from the day – and want to see more of him going forward.
