Leeds United have been linked with a whole host of players since winning promotion back to the Premier League, and another interesting rumour has emerged.

The likes of Edinson Cavani and even Zlatan Ibrahimovic were touted over the summer, though the only first-team additions have been Robin Koch and Rodrigo Moreno.

Now, Le10 Sport report that Leeds made a move for Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet. In the hope of luring him back to England.

Payet has allegedly chosen to extend his Marseille deal until 2024 instead, but did speak to Marcelo Bielsa about a move to Leeds.

Payet is claimed to have been thinking a lot about making the move, but in the end chose to stay put with Marseille.

The 33-year-old will be best remembered for his time with West Ham United, where he was one of the Premier League’s top talents before moving back to Marseille.

Payet was a favourite of Bielsa in his first spell at Marseille, so a reunion could have made some sense – but Leeds fans don’t seem too impressed.

Despite Bielsa clearly rating Payet, some Leeds fans think this was a bullet dodged for the club, with some questioning his character following his West Ham exit.

Some do think that Payet is still a quality player, but the general consensus is that Leeds should look elsewhere.
