The Leeds United youngster started in the heart of their defence against Millwall.

Leeds United lost their first match of the season as they crashed to a 1-0 defeat away to Millwall on Saturday.
The Whites have been at their free-flowing best in recent weeks but they barely got a look in at the Den, managing just a single goal attempt in 90 minutes and falling to a late winner courtesy of Millwall’s Aiden O’Brien.

It got worse for Leeds when centre-back Pontus Jansson went off injured with eight minutes remaining, putting even more pressure on youngster Conor Shaughnessy, who had started in place of injured skipper Liam Cooper.
Shaughnessy was more commonly known as a midfielder during his time with Leeds’ under-23s, but Whites boss Thomas Christiansen has used him as a centre-back since arriving at Elland Road and his performance was one of the few plus points on Saturday.

Shaughnessy was expected to be ruffled by former Leeds forward Steve Morrison, but the 21-year-old stood firm more often than not and he could have a vital role to play in the weeks ahead.
Such has been Leeds’ form so far this season that their fans should not be too worried by a blip away to a tough team, although the lack of creative nous will be concerning given the players on show.
Next up for Leeds is an EFL Cup clash with Burnley before they return to Championship matters against Ipswich Town next weekend.
