Leeds United captain Sol Bamba was recalled to the side for the EFL Cup tie against Luton Town last night, after being left on the bench for the previous two league games.

Bamba had underwhelmed in Leeds’ early losses to QPR and Birmingham, and Leeds had looked a better side with Liam Cooper in his place.

Last night he featured as part of an all-new defensive pairing along with new signing Pontus Jansson.

Both players will be satisfied with a clean sheet and a win, but a better side than Luton could have taken advantage of Leeds on a few occasions, with stand-in goalkeeper Marco Silvestri bailing them out on a handful of occasions.

Bamba’s performance did not inspire the confidence of supporters, who were critical of his display on social media. Here is a look at how Leeds fans reacted…

If he cannot impress head coach Garry Monk, then Bamba faces being fourth choice for Leeds as it stands at present, a fall from grace for a defender not so long ago hailed as the answer at the back.

As a captain, Leeds will hope he has the resolve to put his own poor form right and improve, but he needs game time to do so, and showed last night he is not playing at the level he needs to.

He is likely to have a role to play over the course of the season, but Bamba has to regain the confidence of the fans as well as his manager.
