Leeds United picked up a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United on Friday evening.
Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez and Leeds United’s Robert Green in action
Leeds United rescued a late point at Newcastle United as Chris Wood swooped with a last-gasp equaliser – but the Whites had Robert Green to thank.
The Whites travelled to St. James’ Park in search of another three points, and hit the crossbar in the first half through Spanish winger Alfonso Pedraza – and the Magpies hit the woodwork too as Yoan Gouffran’s strike came back off the post.
Newcastle, gunning for automatic promotion, did take the lead in the second half though, as a high, hanging cross into the box saw Aleksandar Mitrovic head back across goal, with Jamaal Lascelles nodding into the net, with goalkeeper Robert Green just unable to claw the ball away.
It looked like Leeds would leave Tyneside empty handed, but they swooped in the 95th minute to steal a point, as the unmarked Chris Wood ghosted into the box and converted Kemar Roofe’s cross with a calm finish.
Leeds fans were sent into pandemonium as Wood nicked a point, and whilst both he and star defender Pontus Jansson will claim most of the praise having turned in strong performances, goalkeeper Green was the real star of the show.
The goalkeeper, 37, had his ups and downs earlier in the season, but he has been superb in 2017,, and continued his form with another impressive display.

Green denied Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey in the first half, and whilst he could have dealt with the cross for Newcastle’s goal better, he was one of Leeds’ standout performers in their 1-1 draw.
During and after the game, Leeds fans took to Twitter to praise Green’s performance, with many suggesting that the former England goalkeeper has proven them wrong having been hit-and-miss earlier this term.
Others believe that Green should be called back into the England squad, hailing him for an ‘immense’ and ‘amazing’ performance against Newcastle, with some naming him as the man of the match.
