Leeds United are said to be interested in signing Matthew Pennington from Everton.

Leeds United fans do not appear keen on rumours suggesting that Everton man Matthew Pennington could return.

The Liverpool Echo suggest that Leeds are in competition with Wigan Athletic for the Everton defender.

Leeds had Pennington on loan last term, and the centre-back did not always impress.

Pennington had a torrid time with injury, and made some error prone displays in Leeds’ backline when he was played.

And Whites fans seem to want him to join Wigan instead of them for the upcoming campaign.

Leeds may want to bring in a centre-back before the close of the transfer window as their current options in the position look short.

Pontus Jansson looks a certain starter in the centre of Leeds’ defence, but beyond the Swede Marcelo Bielsa appears to have slim pickings.

Leeds have begun to strengthen their side significantly, with Barry Douglas arriving recently.
