Leeds United have announced that Liam Bridcutt is their new captain.

Leeds United today confirmed on their official website that midfielder Liam Bridcutt has been named as the club’s new captain.
The Whites stated over the summer that Sol Bamba would continue as captain under new manager Garry Monk having skippered the side last season, but the Ivorian defender has now been released from his contract.

Leeds take on Huddersfield Town this weekend, and will be looking to bounce back having lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest, with a new captain leading the side out for the big West Yorkshire derby at Elland Road.
Midfielder Liam Bridcutt, who spent most of last season on loan at Leeds from Sunderland, joined permanently over the summer – and has already been made captain of the Whites.
Bridcutt, 27, has plenty of Football League experience having made over 150 appearances for Brighton and Hove Albion, and is the heartbeat of the Leeds midfield under Monk.
The Scottish midfielder appears to be the ideal candidate to become Leeds’ latest captain – and fans have been having their say on Twitter after the club announced the news.

Many fans are delighted to see Bridcutt given the captain’s armband, suggesting that he possesses the experience, passion and leadership qualities to be an ideal skipper for Leeds.
Others felt that defender Liam Cooper would have been a strong candidate for the captaincy, and even wondered why Leeds took so long to sign Bridcutt permanently from Sunderland if they saw him as potential captain material all along.
