Kalvin Phillips’ performance in Leeds’ 2-1 win over Wigan on Sunday was lauded by the Whites fans on Twitter, with many suggesting that he is one of the most improved players under Marcelo Bielsa.
Phillips was superb as Leeds bagged the three points that take them back to the top of the Championship. The academy graduate looked composed on the ball and performed brilliantly in that holding role that regularly sees the youngster drop in as a third centre-back.
Despite conceding early on, Leeds were rarely troubled by their opponents at the DW Stadium, with the support coming from Phillips proving to be a key reason why Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson were able to keep the Wigan forwards contained for the large majority of the game.
Unsurprisingly, Phillips’ performance received an enormous amount of praise on social media once the final whistle blew. It is clear just how important the midfielder has become to Bielsa’s system.

In fact, there could be an argument to suggest that he may be the most important player in Leeds’ side due to the balance that he provides. He links the defence and midfield so well, and plays a variety of roles within 90 minutes.
And on a day where the Whites often looked a class apart, it was Phillips who certainly put in one of the most impressive displays to help Bielsa’s side back to the summit of the second tier.
