Leeds United's Dutch midfielder Jay-Roy Grot (2nd R) has this shot saved as Leicester City's English defender Harry Maguire (R) closes in during the English League Cup fourth round...

The short honeymoon period is over for Jay-Roy Grot at Leeds United after a disappointing display in the Carabao Cup.

The young striker had been used mainly as a substitute up until last night, when he was given the nod to start up front against Leicester.

It was a show of faith by manager Thomas Christiansen, but it did not pay off.

Jay-Roy Grot of Leeds United in action during the Carabao Cup Fourth Round match between Leicester City and Leeds United at The King Power Stadium on October 24, 2017 in Leicester, England.

Grot looked bright early on, firing in a shot on goal in the opening five minutes, but that was as good as it got.

The striker struggled to make an impact and barely figured in the second half as Leicester coped comfortably with his threat.

Grot is only 19-years-old, and this was a learning experience for him, but Leeds fans expected more from the Dutch youth international.

Supporters were very critical of his display, and do not feel that the youngster did enough to justify earning further starts for the club this season.

First choice forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s place is not under threat this weekend.

Here is a look at how Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to Grot’s performance…
