Leeds United dropped down to fifth place in the Championship table on Saturday evening as they lost 1-0 away at promotion rivals Reading.

The Whites had beaten another top six side, Brighton and Hove Albion, in their last game before the international break, and were hoping to do it again as they made the trip to Berkshire.

However, Jaap Stam’s men claimed a 1-0 victory as Yann Kermorgant smashed home the edge of the box after Leeds had failed to deal with a quickly-taken long throw into the box.

Reading had chances to further their lead as Kermorgant rattled the post before the break, and Leeds were left frustrated at the Madejski Stadium, with striker Chris Wood starved of quality service.

The result means Reading leapfrog Leeds up into fourth place in the Championship table, with Leeds squandering the chance to move up to third, above local rivals Huddersfield Town.

Leeds fans were naturally frustrated with the result and the performance, with winger Hadi Sacko heavily criticised by supporters on Twitter both during and after the game.

The French wide man, currently on a season-long loan deal from Sporting Lisbon, started the game but made little impact before being replaced by Souleymane Doukara on the hour mark.

Fans were far from impressed with his display, questioning just what Sacko brings to the team having been completely ineffectual against Reading, even suggesting that he was a ‘passenger’ against the Royals.

Others believe that Sacko needs a rest, but many are questioning just why Sacko is getting in the team on a regular basis ahead of January signing Modou Barrow, who has still yet to make an impact since joining from Swansea City.
