Conor Shaughnessy has been rewarded for his performances this season with a new Leeds United contract.

Leeds confirmed the news today (21/9) via their official website that Shaughnessy has been handed a four-year deal.

It is a further instance of the club’s determination to hold onto their top talents for years to come, always planning for the future under new owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Shaughnessy has broken into the Leeds first team under Thomas Christiansen and was particularly impressive against Premier League side Burnley in the Carabao Cup this week.

Leeds players celebrate after beating Burnley on penalties during the Carabao Cup Third Round match between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor on September 19, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Leeds signed Shaughnessy last season on a free transfer, to strengthen their under-23 side.

Despite the under-23s’ poor results, Shaughnessy did enough to earn a place on the club’s pre-season tour and grabbed his opportunity.

He was then thrust into competitive action on the first day of the season, making his debut due to injuries and suspensions and he has now made six appearances for the club in all competitions.

Shaughnessy’s form has come as a welcome surprise this season, and fans feel his contract is fully deserved.
