Leeds United have been left unimpressed with Aston Villa after they reached the play-off final on Tuesday night by beating West Brom on penalties at The Hawthorns.

It was a gutsy display from the home team, who were very difficult to break down after they opened the scoring through Craig Dawson in the first half – that headed goal levelled the tie over the two legs.

Early in the second half, Dean Smith’s side struggled on the ball and constantly made mistakes without being punished by their opponents. Then Chris Brunt received a second yellow card for a rash challenge on John McGinn which changed the flow of the game.

Villa continued to dominate possession, but couldn’t put the ball into the back of the net with the game going into extra-time and then penalties.

Jed Steer saved two spot-kicks for the away team and Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham ended up scoring the decisive spot kick to send his team to Wembley for the play-off final.

The Midland giants will now meet either Leeds United or Derby County, who contest the second Championship play-off semi-final on Wednesday night at Elland Road.

Here is a selection of Leeds fans on Twitter reacting to Villa’s shootout win:

Under then-manager Steve Bruce, Villa reached the play-off final last May only to be beaten by Fulham 1-0. The players who were there that day will want to go one step further and put things right.

If Leeds United are their opponents at Wembley then it will no doubt be one of the biggest, if not the biggest game in playoff history.
