Leeds United drew 2-2 with Bristol City this evening.
Leeds United produced a super fightback to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Bristol City at Elland Road this evening, with Pablo Hernandez starring.
New manager Paul Heckingbottom took charge of Leeds at Elland Road for the first time today, and was looking for a better outcome than his debut, which was a 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United last weekend.
However, his side got off to the worst possible start, as Felix Wiedwald’s almost comical flapping at a Hordur Magnusson long throw presented Famara Diedhiou with a chance he couldn’t miss, putting Bristol City 1-0 up.
Another Magnusson throw-in wasn’t dealt with, and Marlon Pack’s drilled effort was converted by Bobby Reid, leaving Leeds 2-0 down after just 16 minutes, and with a mountain to climb.
However, climb the mountain they did, as Pablo Hernandez’s superb cross was converted by Pierre-Michel Lasogga to bring Leeds back into the game, and Hernandez’s corner was then turned home by Kemar Roofe for 2-2 in an electric Elland Road atmosphere.
Leeds were a mixed bag throughout their 2-2 draw, but one player who was impressive from first whistle to last was playmaker Hernandez, who notched two assists for Heckingbottom’s side.
Fans took to Twitter during and after the game to praise Hernandez as the man of the match, suggesting he was ‘phenomenal’ and ‘unreal’, with fans even feeling lucky to see him in a Leeds shirt.
Others sent messages to owner Andrea Radrizzani, urging him to give the Spaniard a new contract, given that he can leave for free when his current deal ends this summer.
