Leeds are making a sensible decision over Norwich City’s Sergi Canos.

The big news at Leeds United this month has been Andrea Radrizzani buying out 50 per cent of Massimo Cellino’s stake in the club.

Fans are hoping this signals a new dawn for the club, but don’t expect a Roman Abramovich style spending spree.

One of the players Leeds are credited with interest in this week is Norwich City winger Sergi Canos.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report though that Leeds are hoping to sign the Spaniard on loan, while Brentford are willing to pay £3 million.

This created a few negative murmurings from fans on social media, wondering why despite their fancy new co-owner’s arrival, they are looking at doing a deal ‘on the cheap’.

Yet in this particular case, Leeds are making exactly the right move, and there is no reason to be concerned.

Sure, they could choose to match Brentford’s valuation and bid a seven figure fee for the Norwich winger, but this would be a gamble.

Leeds have only paid a fee of £3 million twice in the last decade, and Canos is yet to prove himself worthy of this figure.

His first team experience extends to a loan spell at Brentford and only two Championship appearances for Norwich this season, having previously been part of Liverpool’s academy.

He is a promising talent, but Leeds are correct in preferring to test drive him via a loan before bidding in the summer, even if this approach means Norwich will reject it and sell to Brentford instead.
