Leeds United’s makeshift winger produced one of his most disappointing performances of the season against Huddersfield Town.
Souleymane Doukara will never hit a ball so sweetly again. One thumping swing of his right-boot from the edge of the area exploded the Nottingham Forest net in January’s 2-0 win, lifting the Elland Road crowd off their seats, united in both jubilation and disbelief.
However, such a moment of picturebook magic does not necessarily mean Doukara can consider the fans ‘won over’. An ineffective performance in the Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town last weekend re-established his reputation as one of the most divisive players in Garry Monk’s squad.
Especially now the arrivals of Modou Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza, orthodox, out-and-out wingers rather than a hard-working stop-gap, means the manager suddenly has more options and depth at his disposal.

And a number of Leeds fans are in no doubt as to who should be the fall guy for Sunday’s 2-1 loss at the John Smith’s – especially after Pedraza replaced him midway through the first half and immediately impressed with his pace and direct running.
‘Worst period of my career’; 26-year-old will wish he’d moved to Leeds United
It’s testament to Doukara’s character that he earned himself a route back into the first-team early in the season when his departure appeared a foregone conclusion. Now, however, after a disappointing display too many, he could find themselves back on the bench sooner rather than later.
