Leeds United could have been hosting Tottenham in the FA Cup.

For the second year in succession, Leeds United have blown their chance of a big FA Cup pay day against Premier League opposition in embarrassing circumstances.

Last season the Whites were defeated 2-0 by non-league Sutton United, who landed a home tie against Arsenal.

Now they have missed out on Tottenham Hotspur visiting Elland Road.

It is the result of their dismal defeat away at League Two side Newport County, who will now host Spurs in the FA Cup fourth round following last night’s draw.

Leeds fans were angry with the side after the Newport defeat, and now having learned what they could have had, if they simply did what was expected of them, the mood is even worse, with the pain of defeat 24 hours earlier still raw.

Seeing Pontus Jansson – who didn’t play in Wales – up against Harry Kane would have been quite an occasion, although whether Leeds have anyone capable of testing Tottenham’s stout defence is certainly questionable.
