Liam Cooper’s attempt to praise Leeds United fans did not go well.

Leeds United may not have had a game this weekend but the anger from their recent performances still simmers around Elland Road.
Leeds have won just one game in all competitions in 2018, a terrible run which has killed off the club’s promotion hopes already.
Not a single player has come out of this run with any credit, just ask Liam Cooper.

As team captain, Cooper gave an interview to the club website at the weekend discussing how much wearing the armband means to him.
The problem is that Cooper is held in low regard by many fans after his performances this season, which have involved costly red cards.
The replies were vitriolic, and showed Cooper has got a lot of work to do if he is to turn around the perception of him.
Cooper was made captain first by Neil Redfearn back in 2015, and then by Thomas Christiansen last summer.
New manager Paul Heckingbottom chose not to rock the boat after he came in, and let Cooper continue as skipper.
The centre-back is playing for his future at present like the rest of his teammates and while he cannot be blamed for trying to say the right thing, the message is being lost because of his under-whelming performances on the pitch.
