Faith has been low in Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald in recent weeks, with even manager Thomas Christiansen dropping him to the bench.

The German was recalled this weekend for the trip to Barnsley, and repaid his manager by keeping a clean sheet.

While it was not the most testing of games, Wiedwald was assisted by a Leeds United supporter.

Staring into the midday sun, Wiedwald had to reach out to the away end at Oakwell to borrow a baseball cap from the crowd.

The former Werder Bremen stopper did not forget the good deed.

After the game Wiedwald returned not only the cap, but gave his shirt away too as a gesture of thanks.

After the game, the supporter posted a message onto Twitter admitting that he wasn’t a great fans of Wiedwald beforehand, but he has won him over.

For a goalkeeper perhaps low on confidence and aware his start has been shaky, the encounter will have been just as positive for Wiedwald as the result.

He may have to win fans back one by one, but he must start somewhere, and his clean sheet gives the summer signing something on which to build.
