Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson had a night to remember for his country yesterday, as Sweden fought back to defeat European Champions Portugal.

Sweden were 2-0 down when Jansson entered the fray, after goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and an own goal by Andreas Granqvist.

But Sweden fought back in the second-half. Two goals from Viktor Claesson and 90th minute own goal from Joao Cancelo.

Speaking after the game the Leeds defender discussed his performance and the result for his nation. He jokingly told Fotbolskanalen:

“Yes, so then maybe I am among the best in Europe. No, but it was a good second half and then maybe Portugal relaxed a little. Since Ronaldo went off it died a little.”

The Leeds star, who has been pivotal to the club’s success in the Championship this season, also tweeted after the game. He posted this message on his Twitter account, showing himself in action with the world’s best Cristiano Ronaldo:

Sweden also defeated Belarus during this international break and Jansson will have been very pleased to have featured in both games.

He will now be hoping to earn back his first-team place at Leeds. He recently saw himself dropped to the bench for Liam Cooper but will hope to be reinstated in time for the crunch clash with Reading this weekend.
