Leeds United have discussed making a move to sign Basel attacker Dan Ndoye during the upcoming January transfer window.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Leeds are looking towards an attacking signing in January.

PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo isn’t likely to join now and another target, Matheus Cunha, has signed for Wolves.

Leeds are considering a move for Ndoye as an alternative target, seemingly discussing internally whether or not to firm up their interest.

This comes after The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reported earlier this month that Ndoye is wanted by three Premier League clubs and has a £25million release clause in his contract.

Who is Leeds United target Dan Ndoye?

Ndoye came through the ranks with Lausanne-Sport, showing huge potential as a teenager with eight goals in 33 games.

Nice saw enough potential in Ndoye to go and sign him back in January 2020, but loaned him straight back to Lausanne.

Ndoye scored just three times in 16 games for Nice before being sent back to Switzerland again, this time to Basel for the 2021-22 season.

Basel activated their purchase option on Ndoye earlier this year and secured a permanent deal, handing him a contract until 2026.

Four goals and four assists in 29 games this season may not sound all that impressive but Ndoye has now earned his first Switzerland cap.

Ndoye was able to play for Senegal through his father but chose Switzerland and will now look for more caps after missing out on the World Cup squad.

Capable of playing out wide or up front, Ndoye clearly has potential for the future but we could say the exact same about other Leeds talents.

Wilfried Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville and Joe Gelhardt all spring to mind; would Ndoye offer more than them right now?

Leeds need another goalscorer and with Ndoye not really showing that kind of ability in Switzerland, it’s hard to imagine him being an instant impact player for Leeds.
