Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe is now said to be a transfer target of Rangers.
Leeds United’s risky decision to sell Mallik Wilks this summer could already backfire on them if they let Kemar Roofe leave too.
Wilks left Leeds to join Barnsley on a permanent transfer on Saturday, and the youngster has suggested that he was forced out of Elland Road.
The decision looked a risk, as Wilks has previously shown plenty of promise.
Wilks was in fine form for Doncaster Rovers last term, and there were suggestions that he could return to Leeds to battle it out for a place in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting line-up next season.
However, Bielsa quickly offloaded him this summer, in what was a controversial decision.
Both Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe are currently ahead of Wilks in the pecking order at Leeds.
If Leeds do sell Roofe then their options will look very short up-front.
Bamford would be almost solely carrying the goalscoring burden at Leeds, and his injury record is hardly convincing.
The Whites may look to sign a striker, but it generally takes players a long time to adapt to Bielsa’s methods.
And Leeds’ decision to let Wilks go could, therefore, come back to haunt them, as they would be very short up-front if Roofe did depart.
