According to The Athletic, Leeds United are braced for bids for goalkeeper Illan Meslier this summer.

Manchester United have previously been credited with an interest, while Barcelona have been linked in recent weeks, so you can see the calibre of clubs looking at the Frenchman.

If Meslier is to leave Leeds this summer, they could receive a massive amount of money for the stopper.

Transfer fees are already out of control, and with Meslier being ranked as the second-most valuable U23 goalkeeper on the planet right now, you have to imagine he will go for a hefty amount.

Look at Aaron Ramsdale, he was sold for £24m this summer, and that was off the back of two relegations. Meslier was outperforming Ramsdale prior to his move to Arsenal, and he’s even younger than the Englishman.

Meslier has been described as ‘superb’ by David James, and at the age of just 21, he could realistically be a top-level goalie for the next 15 years.

Leeds could end up receiving a club record fee for their number one this summer. After all, Leeds’ record sale is still the £30m that they received from Manchester United for Rio Ferdinand all the way back in 2002.

If Barcelona and Manchester United see Meslier as their next long-term number one, then it’s not unrealistic to suggest that they’ll happily pay more than £30m for him.

Of course, whether or not Leeds accept such an offer remains to be seen, but if Meslier is sold this summer then Leeds’ long-standing transfer record could be broken.
