Leeds United defender Reece Burke spoke of his desire to play regularly, and he could in Paul Heckingbottom’s side.
West Ham United defender Reece Burke said in January that he wanted first-team football and Leeds United could offer him just that next season.
Leeds clearly have a space in their starting line-up available at centre-back, as they have failed to find a partner for Pontus Jansson this term.
Liam Cooper doesn’t look up to scratch for a Championship side chasing promotion, it remains unclear whether Matthew Pennington will be back next season and Paudie O’Connor is still developing.
That means that signing a centre-back should be among Leeds’ top priorities this summer, and Burke could be an exciting addition.
The West Ham youngster impressed on a loan spell with Bolton Wanderers this term, and the taste of playing regularly has left him wanting more first-team football.
He said to the London Evening Standard in January: “I would like to stay here but for a young player like me it’s all about getting game time and if I’m not going to play regularly then I know Bolton are also still interested in me and maybe it would be better to go back there.
“That’s a discussion I need to have with the manager in the next few days. You have to work your way up and being here and sitting on the bench is not ideal. I just want to play football.”
If Burke still wants to play regularly, then moving to Leeds could be a better option for him than staying at West Ham.
And with the Whites chasing the centre-back, according to the Daily Mirror, they must feel that they have a strong chance of landing him this summer.
