According to The Athletic, Jack Clarke is planning on staying and fighting for his place at Tottenham this season, and if that is true, Leeds United could benefit.
The winger, who was signed for an initial £10m, is yet to make his league debut for Tottenham, but it seems as though he’s keen to break into the side this season.
Leeds played a blinder in getting £10m for Clarke after he’d started just four league games for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, but if Clarke stays and plays this season, that deal could get even sweeter.
Indeed, Leeds are still due a reported £1.5m in add-ons based on certain clauses being met, and while we’re not privy to what those clauses are, they usually centre around things such as appearances, goals, assists and international caps.
As of right now, Clarke has done next to nothing at Spurs to contribute to reaching those milestones. He’s played just three games, he’s yet to contribute to a goal and he’s not looked close to getting into the England squad.
However, with the winger seemingly willing to fight for his place at Tottenham, it may be long before he starts hitting milestones that trigger these clauses and earn Leeds a bit of extra cash.
Granted, £1.5m is not a lot of money in football, but in a post-covid world, every little helps when it comes to bolstering a club’s finances.
Leeds probably weren’t expecting this bonus this term, but if the reports about Clarke staying and fighting for a spot are true, they could be laughing all the way to the bank come the end of the season.
This is certainly a situation Leeds fans should keep an eye on.
