Leeds United are set to appoint Chris Armas to Jesse Marsch’s coaching staff after the American left Manchester United this summer.

The Whites have already made a big move by luring Red Bull Salzburg playmaker Brenden Aaronson to Elland Road.

The goal is for Leeds to avoid another relegation threat next season and more signings are coming, with Salzburg defender Rasmus Kristensen set to follow Aaronson.

Yet Jesse Marsch may also bring in a key addition to his coaching staff in an attempt to drive Leeds forward.

Leeds United are set to appoint Chris Armas

The Athletic now report that Chris Armas is Leeds United-bound and will come in as Marsch’s new assistant at Elland Road.

Marsch does currently have an assistant at Leeds in Franz Schiemer, bringing the Austrian to Leeds after working together at Salzburg.

Yet Leeds are now set to bring in Armas, meaning Schiemer may take something of a different role at Leeds moving forward.

Welshman Cameron Toshack is also on Marsch’s coaching staff but that won’t stop the move for Armas.

Armas may be a familiar name to some having just spent time on the coaching staff at Manchester United.

Ralf Rangnick brought Armas in as his assistant at Old Trafford back in December, knowing all about him from the Red Bull setup.

Armas was a regular for Chicago Fire and the United States in his playing days before turning to coaching.

Armas spent time coaching in women’s football before becoming Marsch’s assistant at New York Red Bulls.

Marsch loves Armas and told former NYRB star Dax McCarty that Armas is a ‘winner’.

When Marsch left New York in 2018, Armas took over as manager, winning 46% of his games in charge.

The 49-year-old also had a spell in charge of Toronto FC before heading to United in 2021.

Armas was met with the same ‘Ted Lasso’ jokes that Marsch was given last season and the pair are now set to join forces at Leeds.

This is clearly a coach that Marsch trusts, and hopefully Armas can help push Leeds forward next season after his brief stint with their bitter rivals.
