Leeds United are keen to bring Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley to Elland Road in the January transfer window – and he is interested in a move.

The Daily Mail claim that Leeds are watching Barkley’s situation at Chelsea.

Barkley didn’t make it off the bench against Leicester City on Saturday in a 3-0 win for the Blues.

Barkley is therefore thought to be interested in a loan move away from Chelsea, possibly to Leeds again.

Some may not remember, but Barkley joined Leeds on loan from Everton back in 2013. That spell didn’t go all that well for Barkley.

Leeds would of course be hoping for better this time around, with Marcelo Bielsa keen for fresh legs in midfield.

Barkley did go out on loan to Aston Villa last term and started well before fading away, but Leeds saw enough to chase a deal.

Leeds don’t want to spend big money on a new midfielder, but are wary of placing too much emphasis on the only-just-returned Adam Forshaw.

The report even claims that Leeds tried for Billy Gilmour over the summer but missed out, and now want to raid Chelsea for teammate Barkley.

Barkley earns a huge £110,000-a-week at Chelsea, so Leeds may need the Blues to pay some of that in order to facilitate a move.

With five key passes and four successful dribbles against Burnley earlier this month, Barkley showed that he can still be a force in the Premier League.

A key role at Chelsea just won’t happen, and after almost four years at Chelsea, Barkley may need to think about a loan move to Leeds in order to set up a permanent move down the line.
