But before the international break, Leeds faced a team in a similar predicament, a reeling Sheffield Wednesday side.
The Owls had been beaten by Sheffield United in the first Steel City derby for six years, and become the first side to lose to Birmingham City since early August.
Questions were being asked about Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal’s future, but they were answered emphatically as the Owls beat Leeds 3-0.
Leeds let him off the hook, and sparked life into Sheffield Wednesday’s season.
They cannot afford for the same to happen again this weekend with Reading, and must pounce on a vulnerable Royals side.
Home advantage could be key, and a win for Leeds will pile the pressure on Jaap Stam and create a big gap of 14 points between them and a side which finished above them last season which even at this stage of the season could be insurmountable.
