Leeds United now have an opportunity to sign long term target Josh Vela on a free transfer.

Vela has been linked with Leeds over the past two years under Radrizzani’s ownership. The Mail reported their interest in 2017.

The Bolton News reported in 2018 that the ‘Leeds target’ was set to stay with the club.

Now Vela’s time at Bolton is over, and will be officially so on June 30.

Vela announced on Twitter he will not be renewing his contract at the troubled club, following their relegation to League One.

On a free transfer, Vela would now be a bargain for Leeds… if they still want him.

Leeds deciding to make a move or not will be influenced by whether they can win promotion or not. Reaching the Premier League will put them in a completely new market for transfer targets, and Vela certainly won’t be required.

Vela, 25, has had a tough season, playing only 17 times for Bolton, so it will have been tough for him to catch Marcelo Bielsa’s eye.

Last season he played in 30 games and provided three assists.
