Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom suggests where he wants to improve

Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom won for the first time since being appointed last weekend.

Paul Heckingbottom has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he feels Leeds United are developing into the side he wants them to be.

Heckingbottom has been at Leeds for almost a month now, and he has made a positive start.

The Whites boss has helped the Yorkshire side go unbeaten in their last three matches, and won for the first time last weekend.

Leeds beat Brentford 1-0 at Elland Road, and were largely untroubled throughout the contest.

And Heckingbottom feels that he is starting to correct the faults in Leeds’ squad, from Thomas Christiansen’s regime.

“The manner of the performance against Brentford showed a lot of what we have been working on,” Heckingbottom said.

“I want us to be a lot more resilient without the ball and to know how to win games by nullifying the opposition, as well as being good with the ball.

“When I look back at results, Leeds have won lots of games by playing well, but lost lots of games by playing poorly and being easy to play against. We want to maintain the element of us being good with the ball, but being able to control games when the opposition has got it.

“The players have responded well since we came in and I do think they feel a little bit more settled now.”

Leeds’ victory over Brentford has led to suggestions that they could make a late surge for the play offs.

Heckingbottom’s side are currently in 11th place in the Championship table, six points away from the play off spaces.

Leeds are next in action when they take on Middlesbrough later this evening.
