Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has suggested to Leeds Live what Yosuke Ideguchi needs to do in order feature for the club next season.

Ideguchi joined Leeds from Japanese side Gamba Osaka in the January transfer window for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £500,000.

The 21-year-old central midfielder was sent out on loan to Cultural Leonesa in January for until the end of the season.

The Japan international is struggling for playing for the Spanish club at the moment and has played only 107 minutes in the Segunda Division, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Heckingbottom told Leeds Live regarding Ideguchi: “The player’s got to perform well enough to get picked.

“And it doesn’t matter where you are, what club you’re at, that has to be the case and just as I’d say to any player we’re working with here, it’s down to yourself.”

“From our point of view in terms of our players, then of course we want him to play, of course we want the move to work so he’s got more game time in Europe,” added Heckingbottom.

“He’s due to come back to us in the summer and we would like him to get exposure as possible at that level.”

Sound advice

Ideguchi is a very good midfielder who has played 11 times for the Japan national football team.

The youngster needs to work hard at Cultural Leonesa and try to get as much playing time as possible between now and the end of the season, and he should heed Heckingbottom’s advice.
