Argentina World Cup winner Oscar Ruggeri has harsh comments for Leeds boss.
Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is revered in his native Argentina as an innovator and one of the best coaches of his generation.
The biggest blot is his CV is his failure with the Argentine national team, who were eliminated at the group stage of the 2002 World Cup.
1986 Argentina World Cup winner Oscar Ruggeri has not forgiven Bielsa for that, and had some harsh comments for the Leeds manager this week.
Speaking as a pundit on Fox Sports Argentina, he blasted: “He is a good technician, but in the Selection it was the biggest failure of all.
“He had Batistuta and Crespo, two of the best strikers in the history of Argentine soccer and they could not play together.
“He did not give me anything in the National Team.”
Bielsa’s failure may be a regret on his CV, but he did it true his system and belief.
His refusal to play Gabriel Batisuta and Hernan Crespo together was a case of him sticking with his preferred style of selecting only one striker, rather than adapting to fit his personnel.
This has maintained even 16 years on at Leeds, with Bielsa refusing to select £7 million signing Patrick Bamford up front alongside Kemar Roofe, and for the Whites, his system is paying off with the team sitting pretty at the top of the Championship.
