Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Gaetano Berardi has been working really hard for the past six months.

Berardi has returned to training and could play for Leeds in the coming weeks.

As reported by Leeds Live, the defender has been jogging at Thorp Arch and appears to be getting back to full fitness.

The 32-year-old suffered a serious knee injury just over six months ago that has kept him on the sidelines since.

Bielsa told Leeds Live: “Berardi’s a player respected by all his team-mates and by ourselves. He made a big effort in these last six months to recover.

“For all of us it’s a very happy moment to see him working with the team. From now onwards he will take the necessary steps to start competing again.”

Encouraging for Leeds United

Berardi has been on the books of Leeds since 2014 and has been an important player for the team over the years.

The defender has shown his versatility by playing at left-back and at centre-back, and he would be a good option to have in the squad.

Robin Koch is injured at the moment and Diego Llorente has had fitness issues, and a fit Berardi would give Leeds head coach Bielsa a reliable figure at the back.

Leeds are doing well in the Premier League at the moment and could end up in the top 10.
