Aston Villa reportedly want Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United.

Coach of Leeds United Marcelo Bielsa looks on during the match between the Western Sydney Wanderers and Leeds United at Bankwest Stadium on July 20, 2019 in Sydney, Australia.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has suggested to The Yorkshire Evening Post that he has no control over the future of Kalvin Phillips.

According to The Daily Star, Aston Villa are interested in signing Phillips from Leeds in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that Villa – who will play in the Premier League this season after clinching promotion from the Championship via the playoffs – have made an offer of £15 million and are unwilling to increase it.

Leeds head coach Bielsa has said that he wants the 23-year-old to stay at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window, but he has admitted that he has no control over the central midfielder’s future.

Bielsa told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Phillips: “One thing to add to Kalvin. I am proud if he stays here, I chose him in the 18 players that are included in the squad, but I can’t decide if that is here or if he has to leave. I can’t share my idea about how I decide he has to be here.”

Too late to sell

Phillips is one of the best central midfielders in the Championship and is an integral player in Bielsa’s system at Leeds.

There is no one as good as Phillips in the role that he plays for Leeds, and it would not be wise for the West Yorkshire outfit to sell the 23-year-old so late in the summer transfer window.
