Leeds United boss Garry Monk wanted Ravel Morrison when he was playing for West Ham United.
While Garry Monk was in charge at Swansea City, he once attempted to sign Ravel Morrison from West Ham United (Daily Mail), but failed.
Monk was reportedly a big fan of Morrison’s talents, but he was unable to get a deal over the line.
Morrison, instead, moved out on loan before eventually completing a transfer to Lazio in 2015.
The 23-year-old’s switch to Italy has not gone according to plan so far, though, with Morrison making just four appearances for Lazio.
It leaves the England youth international’s career in the balance – with the attacking midfielder running out of chances.
There was a stage where Morrison appeared to have the world at his feet while playing for West Ham, but he has not been able to fulfil his potential.
Morrison’s attitude has been called into question, but now could be the perfect time for Monk to reignite his interest in the England youth international at Leeds United.
Leeds are challenging for promotion in the Championship, and if Monk was able to get the best out of Morrison, he could be the difference maker.
There is no questioning Morrison’s ability. He tore apart Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane when he was just 21, and he would surely be one of the most talented players in the Championship if he was brought to Leeds.
Of course, there is a risk with the transfer, but Morrison would have a point to prove if he moved back to England – and it would then be up to him to seize it.
If Leeds could get Morrison back to his very best, then the gamble would pay off massively – and he could be the special talent required to take them back to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
